We provide a Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology Service for girls and young women up to the age of 16. This is a consultant led service with clinics held in the Children's Hospital Outpatients Department fortnightly. Your doctor can refer you to us for a range of gynaecological conditions.
The Manchester Centre for Sexual Health offers an open access, walk in sexual health and HIV testing, treatment and follow up service. It is free and confidential and open Monday to Friday to people of any age. There is also a special clinic for young people aged 19 years and under on Wednesday afternoons from 3.30-5pm where we also offer contraceptive services. The service is based at the Hathersage Centre, which is also the location of the Palatine contraceptive and sexual health service.
If you would like to discuss contraception or sexual health in a confidential environment, you can also visit any of the dedicated drop-in FRESH clinics for under 25s, run at four locations across Manchester by the NHS. For locations and opening times, please go to www.fresh4manchester.com which also contains lots of other useful information and advice.
There is a confidential NHS screening programme for young people under 25 who want to check if they have contracted sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia and gonorrhea.
Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection and most people who have it don't know they've got it. Untreated it can lead to long term problems such as infertility. The test and treatment is free, painless and confidential. Go to the RUclear programme website for more details: www.RUclear.co.uk for details or ring the helpline on 0800 0461303.
