Assistant Practitioner

Uniform

Duties
Assistant practitioners work in a variety of areas.
Responsible to the staff nurse, they carry out direct nursing care and have an extended role looking after patients.
Auxiliary Nurse

Uniform
Turquoise dress or tunic with white trim and trousers
Duties
Auxiliary nurses work alongside healthcare staff to assist with washing and dressing, feeding, bed making and assist with ensuring a patient's overall comfort.
Cadet

Uniform
Turquoise dress or tunic with navy blue trim and trousers
Duties
Cadets work in both clinical and non-clinical areas allowing them to gain an insight into the careers available to them in health or social care.
Dietitian

Uniform
Short white tunic with lilac trim
Duties
Dietitans work with patients of all ages to promote nutritional wellbeing and prevent food-related problems.
Directorate Matron

Duties
Directorate matrons have a clinical and administration role overseeing areas such as medicine, rehabilitation, surgery and critical care.
Domestic Staff

Duties
Domestic staff work within catering, cleaning and laundry services to maintain a pleasant environment, making a patient’s hospital stay as comfortable as possible.
Enrolled Nurse

Duties
Enrolled nurses work in a variety of clinical areas to directly manage the care of individual patients.
Healthcare Assistant

Uniform
Lilac dress or tunic and trousers
Duties
Working alongside nurses, healthcare assistants help with washing and dressing, feeding, bed making and assist with ensuring a patient's overall comfort.
Hospital Volunteer

Uniform
Red polo shirt or jumper
Duties
Our volunteers support patients and visitors by providing services such as hospital guides and a shop/trolley service.
Housekeeper

Uniform
Grey dress or tunic with trousers
Duties
Housekeeping staff make sure your ward is clean and ensure you get your meals, drinks and refreshments, and are also responsible for the ordering of stocks and supplies.
Occupational Therapist

Uniform
White tunic with bottle green trim to sleeves and collar and bottle green trousers
Duties
An occupational therapist assesses a patient’s needs and works with their team, nursing staff and social services, to ensure that individual is supported while in hospital and on their return home.
PALS Volunteer

Uniform
Jade green polo shirt or jumper
Duties
PALS volunteers have direct contact with patients on wards, listening to them and informing them of the PALS service and identifying those who may need support from the PALS officers.
Pharmacy Technician

Uniform
White tunic with bottle green trim to sleeves and collar and black trousers
Duties
Pharmacy technicians are part of the pharmacy team and work under the supervision of a pharmacist in supplying medicines to patients.
Phlebotomist

Duties
Phlebotomists are specialised clinical staff who collect blood from patients for examination. They are responsible for taking blood without harming the patient before taking it to the laboratory.
Physiotherapist

Duties
Physiotherapists work within most areas to help and treat people of all ages with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing, returning them to their optimum condition.
Porter

Uniform

Duties
Porters move patients between different departments and wards in safety and comfort. They also transport equipment around the building.
Staff Nurse

Duties
Staff nurses work in all clinical areas to directly manage the care of individual patients.
Student Nurse Practitioner

Duties
Student nurse practitioners are studying towards becoming a registered nurse working alongside other staff learning the role and skills.
Ward Clerk

Grey dress or tunic and trousers
Duties
Each hospital ward has a clerk who performs a range of duties including keeping patient records and dealing with telephone calls. A ward clerk works under the supervision and guidance of the ward matron.
Ward Matron

Uniform
Navy blue dress or tunic and trousers with white spots
Duties
Each ward has a matron who is responsible for ensuring nurses are delivering patient-centred care and regularly assess the cleanliness of their ward
Ward Sister

Uniform
Navy blue dress or tunic and trousers
Duties
Responsible for the day-to-day running of the ward, ward sisters maintain clean and safe environments for patients, ensuring patients are cared for whilst being responsible for the educational and professional development of their ward staff.
Specialist nurses
As part of your nursing care, you may be referred to a specialist nurse. If you feel you would benefit from this support, please discuss this with the nursing staff on the ward.

Junior doctors and student nurses
The Trust does have junior doctors and student nurses. You may be asked if you are willing to see one or to allow students to be present during your care or consultation, as it forms an important part of their training. If you do not wish to do so, please tell a member of staff. You are under no obligation and your treatment will not be affected in any way.
