Information about swine flu, how you can reduce your risk of catching it and what to do if you think you have symptoms.

The Government has set up a national Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513. Calls are free and provide information about swine flu, how you can reduce your risk of catching flu, what to do if you think you have symptoms of flu and details of what the Government is doing about it.

Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms who has recently travelled to affected areas of the world (or has been in close contact with someone who has visited affected areas) should stay at home to limit contact with other people and:

  • Call your GP by phone
  • Call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47
  • Visit www.nhs.uk

Good hygiene is the best way of reducing the spread of viruses such as swine flu.

  • Catch It – Germs spreads easily. Always carry tissues and use them to catch your cough or sneeze
  • Bin It – Germs can live for hours on tissues. Dispose of your tissue in a bin as soon as possible after using it
  • Kill It – Hands can transfer germs to ever surface you touch. Wash your hands with soap and water as soon as you can - especially after coughing/sneezing and before eating or touching your mouth and face
