New beginning for League of Friends shop
November 13th, 2009
Local MP Beverley Hughes has officially opened the brand new League of Friends shop at Trafford General Hospital.
The Member of Parliament for Stretford and Urmston hosted the opening ceremony for the shop, which is by the Information Desk at the Clock Tower Entran
ce of the hospital. On sale will be all kinds of confectionery, cold drinks, ice cream, newspapers, magazines, books, greeting cards, toiletries and other bits and pieces.
League of Friends chairman George Webster said the opening was the beginning of a new era for the shop. He added: “It is fantastic to have this brand new shop in such a prominent place in the hospital. The League of Friends will continue to raise much-needed funds for the hospital and this is a great way of doing that. We look forward to seeing as many staff, patients and visitors as possible here.”
Beverley Hughes MP said: “The League of Friends – all local volunteers – has raised money and provided a fantastic, friendly service for patients and staff for over 30 years now. In total, they have raised more than £740,000 for additional facilities at the hospital. This new shop takes that service to another level and will be a big bonus for patients, relatives and staff. It also enables the League to continue its fundraising for the benefit of the local community. They are fantastic people!”
The League of Friends raises money to benefit patients, visitors and staff at Trafford General Hospital by funding equipment and other items that the hospital cannot provide from its own funds. They have raised more than £740,000 over the past three decades.
The League is looking for more volunteers to help staff the shop; if you are interested, please contact the Volunteering & Fundraising Office on (0161) 746 2554. They are also keen to hear ideas from customers about any other items they think the shop should stock.
