Taking steps to fundraise for new hospital

March 17th, 2010

Local people are being asked to take steps to support the building of a new hospital in Altrincham – by joining a fundraising walk on 11 April.

A hardcore team of stout-booted walkers plan to hike around Altrincham’s town boundary to raise money for equipment in the new hospital. They are hoping that people of all ages and ability levels will join them for as much (or as little) of the walk as they can manage, and raise a minimum of £5 each in donations or sponsorship money.

The walk is being organised by health campaigner Judie Collins and hospital volunteer Ray Mudd, both of whom are keen walkers. It will start from Altrincham General Hospital at 8.30am on Sunday 11 April and will then take in the golf club, Broadheath, Timperley, Brooks Drive, Hale Barns, Bowdon and Dunham before finishing back in the town centre.

“The boundary walk takes in some of the most picturesque and scenic parts of Altrincham, including Dunham Park, the canal and Brooks Drive,” said Judie Collins, “so it should be a very enjoyable experience. We’re not expecting many people to do the full 18 miles but it would be fantastic if the whole of Altrincham could join in and walk just some of the way – it doesn’t matter how little or how much of it you do.”

Walkers are asked to contribute a minimum of £5, either as a donation or in sponsorship, towards the League of Friends of Altrincham General Hospital’s new hospital appeal. The proceeds will be used to equip the new hospital, which is expected to open in 2012.
