New date for public’s chance to tell hospitals how to measure quality of care

February 5th, 2010

A new date has been set for an event where patients, relatives and the general public can tell the health trust that runs Trafford’s hospitals how it should measure the quality of its care.

The informal drop-in event, called ‘Quality: What Matters to You?’, was originally due to take place in January but was postponed because of the heavy snow. It will now take place on Wednesday 17 March from 10.30am-1.30pm in St Matthew’s Chruch Hall, Stretford.

The event is open to everyone with an interest in the services provided by Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust at Trafford General, Altrincham General and Stretford Memorial Hospitals and in the community.

The Trust, which was rated Medium-Sized Hospital Trust of the Year in the latest Dr Foster Hospital Guide, wants people’s views on how it should measure and report its performance on the safety and effectiveness of the care it provides, as well as patients’ views on their experience of being seen and treated there.

The feedback will help the Trust set local priorities for the new Quality Accounts that all hospital trusts will be publishing later this year.

People attending the ‘Quality: What Matters To You?’ event will be able to take part in discussion groups and surveys, see sample Quality Accounts and give feedback on their layout and usefulness to patients, and meet key figures from the Trust.

Dr Simon Musgrave, Medical Director at the Trust, said: “People have a right to know how well their local hospitals are performing when it comes to the safety and effectiveness of their care and ensuring patients have a good experience. This event will help us provide patients, relatives and the wider public with the information they need and want and we hope lots of people will give us their views by attending this event or completing the survey on our website.”

Ann Day, Chair of Trafford Local Involvement Network (LINk) for health and social care, said: “Trafford LINk is encouraging residents to attend this event. It is important that the public are consulted and listened to so that their views and experiences of hospital care can influence any changes needed to the quality of that care. Patients’ priorities may be very different to those set nationally by the Department of Health. Trafford residents have an opportunity to say to senior managers at Trafford Healthcare what really matters to them. Don’t miss this opportunity.”

‘Quality: What Matters To You’ takes place from 10.30am-1.30pm on Wednesday 17 March at St Matthew’s Church Hall, Chester Road, Stretford, M32 8HF. Refreshments will be provided. Please call 0161 746 2019 for more information or to reserve your place.

• If you can’t come along to the event, you can still give your views by completing our online survey.
