How we're beating MRSA
Trafford's healthcare staff demonstrated just how well they are doing in beating MRSA during a colourful celebration at Trafford General Hospital, by smashing four larger than life models to pieces.

It's been over two years since Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust has had a single case of MRSA bloodstream infection at its hospitals -- Trafford General, Altrincham General and Stretford Memorial. The record breaking achievement was celebrated by staff beating giant piñatas in the shapes of the letters MRSA with oversized wooden sticks, emphasising the Trust's tough stance against the hospital bug. MRSA bacteraemia is the potentially fatal infection that can occur when MRSA bacteria get into the bloodstream.
Over the last couple of years the Trust has gained national recognition for its innovation and approach to infection control, including a Nursing Times Awards nomination in 2010. Also, the Infection Prevention and Control team have been leading the 'Going for Gold' campaign, which includes raising the profile of good hand hygiene among patients, visitors and staff.
